Gastritis causes and warning signs — NCLEX-RN learning guide
Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining. Helicobacter pylori infection and medication-related mucosal injury are important causes. Symptoms can vary; some patients have no symptoms, while others develop upper-abdominal discomfort, dyspepsia or bleeding.
മലയാളത്തിൽ പഠിക്കേണ്ടത് | Malayalam lesson summary
Video learning recap (caption-informed, not verbatim)
- 00:00–00:31: Inflammation and common causes
- 00:31–00:47: Typical symptoms and signs of gastrointestinal bleeding
- 00:47–01:09: Cause-directed treatment overview
NCLEX-RN clinical reasoning: key takeaways
- Escalate suspected upper-GI bleeding, shock or acute deterioration rather than treating it as routine indigestion.
- Medication reconciliation should include NSAIDs, aspirin and relevant bleeding-risk drugs.
- For H. pylori, treatment must follow professional diagnosis and prescribed eradication regimens; do not self-prescribe antibiotics.
NCLEX-RN 2026–2029 study companion: Gastritis: differentiating dyspepsia from bleeding
New educational explanation: Gastritis may cause epigastric discomfort, nausea or no symptoms. H. pylori infection and NSAID-related injury are important causes, but symptoms alone do not identify the cause. Melena, blood in vomit, dizziness, hypotension or worsening weakness raise concern for upper gastrointestinal bleeding and require urgent assessment.
Original NCLEX-style clinical judgment practice
Question: A client who takes ibuprofen frequently reports black tarry stools, dizziness and increasing weakness. What is the priority nursing action?
- Arrange urgent assessment for possible gastrointestinal bleeding
- Recommend antacids and routine follow-up only
- Tell the client black stools are always due to food
- Ask the client to continue NSAIDs without review
Correct answer: A. Rationale / വിശദീകരണം: A identifies potentially serious bleeding. B and D delay evaluation and may worsen harm; C dismisses a significant warning sign. Further testing and medication decisions require the clinical team.
Malayalam–English quick terminology
- Melena — black tarry stool from digested blood
- H. pylori — bacteria linked to gastritis/ulcers
- NSAID — nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug
Two learning questions
Does all gastritis cause pain? No. Many patients have no symptoms.
Can a symptom checklist diagnose H. pylori? No. Appropriate laboratory or endoscopic testing may be needed.
