NCLEX-RN Cost for Indian Nurses in 2026
How much does it cost for an Indian nurse to take the NCLEX-RN?
There is no single fixed total amount because the final cost depends on the U.S. Nursing Regulatory Body selected, credential-evaluation requirements, document processing and where the examination is taken.
However, the major expenses can be understood clearly.
NCLEX-RN Exam Fee for U.S. Licensure
For candidates seeking U.S. RN licensure, the current NCLEX registration fee is US$200. If the candidate schedules the examination at an international test centre, including India, an additional US$150 international scheduling fee applies, plus applicable taxes. Therefore, the basic Pearson NCLEX cost for a U.S.-licensure candidate testing internationally is US$350 + applicable taxes. At an indicative September 2026 exchange rate of approximately ₹95.56 per US$1, US$350 is roughly ₹33,450. The actual INR amount charged can differ because of exchange-rate changes, applicable taxes, bank charges and currency-conversion fees.Official Source: NCLEX – Fees & Payment
Main NCLEX-RN Costs for Indian Nurses
| Expense | Typical 2026 Cost |
|---|---|
| NCLEX registration – U.S. licensure | US$200 |
| International scheduling fee | US$150 |
| U.S. State Board application/licensure fee | Varies by state |

| English-language examination, if required | Depends on exam/provider |
| Bank, tax or currency-conversion charges | Variable |
Important: These expenses are not necessarily paid at the same time, and not every applicant requires every service listed above.
Candidates must register for the NCLEX through Pearson after following the requirements of their selected Nursing Regulatory Body.
For U.S. licensure in 2026:
- NCLEX registration: US$200
- International scheduling: US$150
- Total when testing internationally: US$350 + applicable tax
Pearson states that NCLEX fees are determined by where the candidate is seeking licensure, not simply where the candidate lives or takes the test. So an Indian nurse applying for U.S. licensure follows the U.S. NCLEX fee structure.
The NCLEX registration fee is separate from the nursing-board application or licensure fee. Each U.S. jurisdiction determines its own fee.
For example, New York State currently charges US$143 for RN licensure and first registration. Other states have their own fee

Therefore, candidates should verify the current fee directly with the nursing board they select.
Some U.S. nursing boards require internationally educated nurses to complete credential evaluation or verification.
- TruMerit CES Professional Report: US$485
- New York CVS Service: US$425
These services are not required in the same way by every U.S. jurisdiction, so candidates should confirm the correct service before making payment.

Indian applicants may also have expenses related to obtaining or sending:
- Nursing transcripts
- Academic verification
- Registration/licence verification
- Official documents
- Courier or document-processing services
These costs vary between universities, nursing councils and service providers, so they cannot be listed as one fixed NCLEX fee.
IELTS, OET or another approved English test may be required for certain licensure or immigration pathways.
However, an English-language examination is not automatically part of the Pearson NCLEX examination fee. Requirements depend on the relevant nursing board and the applicant's pathway.
How Much Should an Indian Nurse Budget?
There is no single universal “total NCLEX cost” for every Indian nurse because the final amount depends on the selected U.S. nursing board, credential-evaluation requirements, document expenses and other applicable charges.
A typical U.S. pathway can include:
The final total therefore depends heavily on the selected U.S. state.
Example Only
Consider an applicant whose state requires the US$485 CES Professional Report. The following major fees alone would be:
- US$200 — NCLEX registration
- US$150 — international scheduling
- US$485 — CES Professional Report
Can Indian Nurses Reduce Unnecessary NCLEX Expenses?
Yes.
One of the most important steps is to choose the appropriate nursing board before paying for credential evaluation or other services.
Avoid
- Purchasing the wrong credential-evaluation service
- Registering with Pearson prematurely
- Paying for unnecessary services
- Allowing paid applications to expire
- Submitting duplicate NCLEX registrations
Pearson states that NCLEX registration and international scheduling fees are generally non-refundable. Correct planning can therefore prevent significant unnecessary expenditure.
